The recent extension of Branham Lane East off Hellyer Avenue in south-east San José dead-ends at the Coyote Creek Trail, a major north-south pedestrian-bicycle trail. Instead of connecting Branham Lane's sidewalk to the Coyote Creek Trail, some 75 feet away, San José blocked the end of the sidewalk with a whitewashed fence. In the absence of a proper sidewalk, trail users simply make their own path through the grass. Small gestures like these quite clearly demonstrate San José's lack of interest in pedestrian matters.
